The Virginia Beach Technical and Career Education Center opened in the fall of 1972.

The Virginia Beach Technical and Career Education Center offers high school students the opportunity to combine academic and vocational preparation to achieve personal fulfillment, responsible citizenship, and economic self-sufficiency. While offering 23 occupational programs, the Tech Center prepares students for entry-level jobs and provides them with the ability to advance beyond entry-level positions.

It prepares them not only for existing careers and occupations, but also for those which will be emerging during the coming decades. In today's extremely competitive job market, it is more important than ever to have a marketable skill.
Students who complete programs at the Tech Center have the option to enter the job market directly or to continue their studies at two-year or four-year colleges, community colleges, apprenticeship programs, or professional technical institutions.

The Tech Center has produced thousands of skilled professionals. Throughout the Commonwealth and the nation, there are former students who are leaders in their trades, businesses and industries.

All Tech Center courses award three credits per year, and students who wish to attend must fill out a Tech Center application. Students may obtain an application from their guidance counselor.
