Students enrolled in
the Construction Technology program at the Tech Center, have the
unique opportunity to receive “real life” training
and experience by participating in the building of a house, located
off campus. Second year students, who are enrolled in one of the
building trades, build the house from the ground up.
The
masonry class builds the foundation, forms the sidewalk and driveway,
and installs the brick façade to the front of the home.
The
carpentry class frames the wood structure of the house, installs
the sheathing and wrap on the outside, and installs the vinyl
siding.
The
plumbing class installs the rough plumbing, sewer and water pipes,
and sets the trim and fixtures. In addition, they run the gas
piping and install the gas fixtures.
The
electricity class wires the house, installs communications cabling,
and sets electrical fixtures and appliances.
The
Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) class will run
all duct work to heat and cool the house. They will also participate
in the installation of the heating and cooling units.
When the house nears
completion, the students from the Landscaping class will design
and install the flower and plant beds, as well as establishing
the lawn.
