Are you a creative person who loves people and working with hair, nails, and skin? Check out Cosmetology , a two-year, six credit program, where you will learn many of the skills the cosmetology industry is seeking in qualified cosmetologists! You will learn in a state-of-the-art lab, and you will even have the opportunity earn the highly regarded Virginia State Cosmetology License!

This course prepares students for employment in the cosmetology field. The curriculum includes learning how to shampoo, cut, style, condition and color hair. Students will receive instruction in giving permanent waves, chemical relaxers, manicures and pedicures. Instruction also includes beauty salon management and personality development. Students will study many areas of science to include: anatomy and physiology, infection control and bacteriology, skin disorders and diseases, skin structure growth and nutrition, nail disorders and diseases, chemistry, and electricity. The students will also learn acrylic and UV gel nail application, waxing, facials and makeup application for natural, dramatic, and corrective effects. State Board exams will be given at the end of the senior year to become a licensed cosmetologist. Students will prepare for the following credentials or certifications: Professional Cosmetology License from the Board of Barbers and Cosmetology/Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation; and the Workplace Readiness Skills for the Commonwealth Examination.


In addition to going straight to the work force, our graduates have many options after successfully completing their courses! Further your education at a community college, technical school or university: There are various training opportunities through private salons, chains, and vendors such as Joe Blasco's School of Makeup and Special Effects.

Internships

All students at the Tech Center have the option to obtain an internship towards the end of their experience here. The philosophy is that there is invaluable knowledge and experience to be gained working side-by-side with a professional in an actual environment.
