Are you a creative person who loves to be outside? Check out Turf Management , a one-year, three credit program, where you will learn many of the skills the Turf Management industry is seeking in qualified candidates! You will learn in a state-of-the-art lab on real equipment , and you will even have the opportunity earn the highly regarded Virginia Crew Chief Certification and OSHA 10 Certification!

 
 

You will gain skills related to any one of the following careers. Check out the links to see starting salaries and statistics!

In addition to going straight to the work force, our graduates have many options
after successfully completing their courses! Further your education at a community college, technical school or university:

Golf Course Manager or Supervisor
Golf Course Superintentdent
Golf Course Assistant Superintendent
Sports field manager
Groundskeeper on athletic fields

TCC: AAS in Horticulture
Virginia Tech: AAS in Agricultural Management, AAS in Landscape and Turf Management, BS in Horticulture

 

  

All students at the Tech Center have the option to obtain an internship towards the end of their experience here. The philosophy is that there is invaluable knowledge and experience to be gained working side-by-side with a professional in an actual environment. Below are some of the great internships our students have had, thanks to Turf Management!

 

Virginia Tech Experimental Station: Groundskeepers, Turf Research Assistants
Honey Bee Golf Course, Hell's Point Golf Course, Heron's Ridge Golf Course, Redwing Golf Course, Owl's Creek Golf Course: Groundskeeper Assistants


Right now students in Turf Management are working on:

Weekly visits to HoneyBee Golf Course where they are trained on real equipment
Visits to field sites such as: Virginia Beach Contemporary Arts Center, Virginia Aquarium, Sportsplex, Princess Anne Athletic Center, and Red Wing Golf Course
Field trips to: Virginia Tech Experimental Station, Harbour Park, Norfolk Botanical Gardens, TCC, where they learn about different career opportunities and job responsibilities
