Vocational Evaluation

Providing Vocational Guidance Since 1978
The Vocational Evaluation Center is located at Tech Center and serves students from all Virginia Beach High Schools. Vocational Evaluation is a professional discipline, which uses real or simulated work as the focal point for career assessment and exploration. State licensed and nationally certified vocational evaluators assess, observe and document student interests, temperaments, work related behaviors, learning styles, aptitudes and skills.

Students are provided the opportunity to actually perform simulated work tasks that relate to training programs available at the Center for Applied Technology, Technical and Career Education Center, Advanced Technology Center, courses offered at the high schools, and many occupations and training programs found in the community. The information obtained from this process can be used in coordinating further planning for the individual's program of studies and career future.

Vocational Evaluation services are primarily offered to special needs students. Students may receive either a Comprehensive (3 to 5 days) or a Focused (2 days) assessment depending upon their individual needs. Special education teachers and guidance counselors refer students for vocational evaluation services. Students are usually referred to the Center when they are in ninth or tenth grade.

Referral procedures and referral forms can be found on the Virginia Beach Schools Intranet (click here on Virginia Beach City Public Schools, if you are logged into a school computer) under Forms/ Department of Curriculum and Instruction/Technical and Career Education.
